Wei Ming and Louie were both scholars and activists
of the Asian American and Hapa communities. So
when it came to their wedding, this unique couple were envisioning
symbols, festive colors, and cultures. The colors, green, lavender,
copper, and red were very important to the couple, as well as the
meanings
behind dragonflies and lotuses in the Asian cultures. Working with
different color papers and textures was a unusual and exciting
challenge. The result was just as colorful and meaningful as the
couple themselves. |

Wedding Invitation
Because the couple were both
scholars and share the love for handmade artwork and Asian
antiques, the invitation was to evoke the idea of handmade
book or old parchment scroll. Since the envelope was made
with green vellum, the cover of the invitation was kept simple
with Chinese painting. The paper is Classic
Laid, hand crafted with intricate patterns and texture.
The
softness and cool calming color of heather green sets the
stage for the bold color inserts. |

The lavender vellum
holds the red RSVP postcard while
gives
important information
about
the
wedding.
The postcard is Firecracker Red recycled paper with specks
of confetti-like texture, while the shiny copper paper is the
map and driving directions. Behind it is
Wei
Ming's love poem to Louie. With different color papers and
vellum, this "book" may look simple, but inside is layered
with text, colors, depths, and symbols of love, peace, and
harmony.
